Woman with the Emerald Ring

Woman with the Emerald Ring

The wife of a rich man fell seriously ill the night before winter, so he called a doctor.  When the doctor arrives, his wife has died, or so it seems.  Her husband was so sad that he locked himself in his room and did not attend the funeral the following day.

The servants of the house brought the body of the rich woman to Johan the Chief Waiter to immediately hold a death ceremony.  The curtain covered his face, the stone lid was lowered, and the iron grille was locked.

Just before Johan fell asleep that night, he remembered a beautiful emerald ring circling on the dead woman's finger.  Because Johan really wanted the ring and thought that no one would know if he planned to take it, he then went down, opened his coffin, and tried to remove the ring.

Although it is very difficult to remove, but he does not want to budge.  He ran and brought back a tool to cut the ring from his finger.  When that didn't work, he planned to break the woman's finger and pull the ring.

When he left, and turned to pick up the iron lid, he immediately shouted to the top of his lungs.  Johan drops the ring and runs.  The deceased woman had woken up, groaned, and held a severed finger towards Johan with an evil smile on his face.

Wearing nothing but his fine silk gown, the woman walked back to her house, knocked on the door, and rang the bell, but to no avail.  All the servants go to sleep, because it's late at night.  He lifted a heavy stone, threw it into her husband's window, and waited.  He came to the window with a sad expression on his face.

Suddenly, to his surprise, he shouted, "Leave.  Why do you have to torture me like that?  Don't you know my wife just died?  Let me grieve and do not disturb me again.  "

With this he closed the window.  He did not realize that his wife had thrown a stone at the window.  He repeated his actions, again throwing stones at the window.  He opened the window again, and he yelled at him, "I am nothing but your dead wife.  Now come here and open this door, unless you want me to die for the second time at our door.  "

"Are you a ghost?" He told him.

He said, "No, because ghosts don't bleed.  Now come down here before I die of cold.  "

The man with a happy face descends to meet his wife and takes him inside where he calls the doctor once more and tells the news to him.

Meanwhile, Johan runs home and climbs the stairs.  In a state of fear, he hanged himself from the casing of his house.  If only he knew that the woman just wanted to say thank you.  After all, he was not dead but had a coma.  When he cut his finger, the pain woke him up.
